FREE - 101 Days Of Christmas e-book

Can you believe that there are only 89 days until Christmas? Insane, right?? Well, there are only 89 days until Santa comes down the chimney, so it's time to get our butts into action. I haven't read or reviewed 101 Days of Christmas yet, but I wanted to share it with you all now, as it is free for kindle today and tomorrow (always check right before purchasing, as prices on kindle often change!), and eveything else I have by Mandi Ehman is fantastic, so I figure this book will be as well!! Buy it at amazon here. My review will be forthcoming in the next few days, so stay tuned...

What I Wore Wednesday

pleated poppy

If you are visiting for the first time and see these pics, you will think I only wear blazers - I swear I do wear other items, but in this classic spring weather, there really is nothing more practical or stylish than a well cut one!

If you are getting bored of my Dior-inspired outfits, look away now, 'cause here's another one!! It was the perfect outfit for the weather, and for my meeting with the web design company for work - pulled together, polished, but not too formal. And BTW, is it a recruitment requirement than you must be under 20 to work in web design? I swear, I felt like a grandmother walking through their offices!

Also, I got a few comments last week about these heels - they are indeed by Lands End, and not only are they incredibly well made and expensive looking in real life, they are supremely comfortable as well. I got them last year, and they have become a real staple of my wardrobe.

Boyfriend jeans: Mink Denim
Navy blazer: Sportscraft
Leopard print heels: Lands End
Monogram necklace: C Wonder
Charm bracelet: Pandora

Today was truly four seasons in one day. At times, it was freezing and raining, and I was so glad I decided to throw on this scarf at the last minute, whereas around lunchtime, it was so warm, I was thrilled that the silk top I was wearing was sleeveless, and I was baring arms for the first time in months! I bought this scarf on a whim, just because I thought the yellow horses on the grey were super cute, but it goes perfectly with this silk top with its shades of grey, yellow and cream.

Silk tank: CAbi
Navy linen blazer: Sportscraft
Mini boot cut jeans: Gap
Black patent heels: Innovare
Charm bracelet: Banana Republic
While I was slow to jump on the "glam" track pant trend, I'm now fully on board, even wearing them to a nice restaurant and then the theatre. Paired with heels, statement earrings and a blazer, they were wonderfully comfy AND dressed up enough for a beautiful evening out.

Black blazer: Ann Taylor
Print knit pants: Estelle
Gold bamboo hoop earrings: C Wonder
Black heels: Urban Soul

See you all next week!!

What I Wore Wednesday

pleated poppy

The weather is completely all over the place here in Perth - not only from day-to-day, but within the day as well, so layers have been the order of the day all week long. On a different note, has there ever been an ad that totally captivated you? After a retail marketing degree and years in the fashion/beauty biz not many do, but the Dior Rouge ad featuring Natalie Portman grabbed me so much that I not only went out and bought the exact lipstick advertised, it really influenced my style this week!

Don't you think there is a real je ne sai quois about the shot?

This is the Dior lipstick in action! Dior Rouge 999 is a classic true red, and the texture is gorgeous - it has a beautiful shine, but still really lasts, and does not bleed at all.
Print shirt: BIB
Boyfriend jeans: Mink Denim
Navy blazer: Sportscraft
Red patent flats: Witchery
Charm bracelets: Pandora

I love adding a touch of leopard print to an outfit - timeless and chic and fun!
Coral sweater: Lands End
Mini boot cut jeans: Gap
Leopard heels: Lands End
Bracelets: Assorted

A beautiful sunny day deluded me into thinking summer was almost here, hence the full-on summer outfit! I love white and beige together in summer - such an elegant colour combo, don't you think?
White tank: Virtu
White jeans: Gap
Beige knit cardigan: CaBI
Gold necklace: C Wonder
Beige studded flats: Witchery

This was my interpretation of the outfit Natalie Portman was wearing in the Dior ad, and I have to say, I felt totally chic and a little bit French in it!
Black tee: Land End
Black blazer: Ann Taylor
Boyfriend jeans: Mink Denim
Black kitten heels: Innovare
Pearl necklace: Linneys

I'm totally a late adopter the the glam track pant trend, but I am in love with these pants! They are like wearing pyjamas, but paired with a blazer still look polished and pulled together.
Black tank: Lands End
Printed pants: Estelle
Black blazer: Ann Taylor
Black wedge sneakers: Wittner

See you all next week!!

Banana Choc Chip Breakfast Cookies

I made these Banana Choc Chip Cookies for the kids as a healthy lunchbox treat, but they have mostly been eating them as a replacement for breakfast with a glass of milk or a smoothie. With the oats and wholemeal flour, and the health(ier) sweetener, I have no problem with that!

Banana Choc Chip Breakfast Cookies

180g (6.4 oz) butter, softened
1 cup succanat/rapadura (or brown sugar)
1 egg
3 ripe bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2  cups whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp bicarb (baking) soda
1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup choc chips
1/2 cup currants or other dried fruit, chopped
2 cups rolled oats

  1. Preheat oven to 160C/320F.
  2. Beat butter and succanat in stand mixer for 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla and bananas and mix until combined.
  4. Add choc chips, currants and oats and stir with a large spoon until combined.
  5. Place heaped tablespoons onto lined baking trays (I use a 1 1/2 tbs cookie scoop), allowing room to spread.
  6. Bake for 12 minutes until lightly browned.

Sunday Check-in

Unfortunately, this week did not go to plan, and I really let my eating and exercise plan slip. A combination of sick kids and stress made me realise how much I stress eat, and how much I need to get a handle on situations like this, and make better choices. I am glad the damage was only half a kilo, and I am looking forward to getting everything back on track this coming week.

Week ending 8/9/13

Today's weight: 98.0 kg
Last week's weight: 97.5 kg
Starting weight: 99.8 kg

This week's loss: 0.5 kg gain
Weight Loss to date: 1.8 kg

Exercise: none

What I Wore Wednesday

pleated poppy

Spring has sprung!! While we are still having rainy, stormy days here in Perth, we are having more and more sunny days - some of them could even be called warm. Flowers have started to bloom, you can see green buds everywhere, and the days are noticeably longer - it is just delightful! As for fashion, layers are really coming in handy and the preppier side of my closet is winning out.

This weather just screams nautical, don't you think? I love the look of Breton tops, but have never found one that suits me; they are usually bateau necked which is not great on a larger bust. This knit, while not a Breton exactly, still gives me the look while being much more flattering on my shape. Paired with dark denim and red patent flats, I've got a pulled together casual look perfect for my lifestyle and shape.

Striped knit: Sportscraft
Boot cut jeans: Gap
Red patent flats: Witchery
Charm bracelets: Pandora

While the weather is still in-between, darker colours still look appropriate, especially when lightened up with a hit of florals. It's hard to see in the pic, but the blouse underneath is a lovely floral on a navy background - it's great now with dark jeans and a light weight black jacket, but will be wonderful with white jeans or a denim skirt further into spring.

Floral blouse: Old Navy
Black lightweight jacket: CaBI
Slim cut jeans: Ann Taylor
Black booties: Wittner
Charm bracelets: Pandora

I needed this knit trench in the morning, but by 10 am it was warm enough to wander around in a short sleeved tee. Shame I was inside most of the day!

Black tee: Gap
Black ponte pants: Ann Taylor
Camel knit trench: CaBI
Gold necklace: Marc Jacobs
Black wedge booties: Wittner

It was very cold today, so out came multiple layers and cord pants, hopefully for the last time! If you like the look of a collared shirt under a knit, but don't like the bulk, I highly recommend these Skinny Shirts - they have a cotton collar (and cuffs on their long sleeve version), but the body is a slinky camisole type of knit, giving a really sleek, smooth line.

Blue shirt: Skinny Shirt
Blue sweater: Sportscraft
Paisley cords: Sportscraft
Black wedge booties: Wittner

Spring totally brings out my preppy side, and this outfit is preppy and nautical, even better. You can't see clearly, but the tee has a really fun anchor print all over it. Unfortunately, I washed it with something (still can't figure out what) that left highly visible blue/black smudges all over it, so it's now relegated to housework clothes :(

Anchor tee: Sportscraft
Printed jeans: Old Navy
Navy linen blazer: Sportscraft
Gold initial necklace: C Wonder
Brown loafers: Louenhide

See you all next week!!

Sunday Check in

Can you believe it is September already? Scary and unreal how fast this year is flying past!! Anyway, another week done and dusted on my weight loss journey, and with a loss of just under a kilo, I was quite happy. Especially since this week included four dinners and one lunch out at restaurants, and was super busy, so I only managed one session on the elliptical trainer. It did prove to me, though, that smart(er) choices when eating out, and being strict the rest of the time, can still mean a weight loss, even if it is not as high as I would like!

This coming week, while still crazy busy, doesn't have any functions planned, so at least I can really focus on following my eating plan.

Week ending 1/9/13

Today's weight: 97.5 kg
Last week's weight: 98.3 kg
Starting weight: 99.8 kg

This week's loss: 0.8kg
Weight Loss to date: 2.3 kg

Exercise: 1 days x 30 mins on elliptical
