This post was scheduled to go live last Monday, but in light of the tragedies that had occurred over the past week and a half, I decided to postpone. What has happened in Paris (and is continuing to happen), together with the bombings in Beirut, and closer to home, the death of 4 people in the bushfires in the south of my state, shows more than ever that as communities, we need to band together in hope and solidarity.
My daughter's class recently held a multicultural assembly, and together they read out this poem which could not be more appropriate for the world we are living in.
Different colours, different faces.
Different cultures, different races.
Different religions, different names.
But in our hearts we are all the same.
Just because I’d different and I might seem strange to you,
Please don’t treat me differently that’s not the thing to do.
Just take the time to know me, we might just become friends,
Cause difference makes the world go round and helps our cultures blend.
If we accept and celebrate what others have to give,
The world will be a better place for all of us to live.
